Graceful Exit tells the story of 70-year-old performance artist Maria, who receives a cancer diagnosis that makes her question how she wants to die. Unfolding through a series of short scenes with Maria’s much younger lover, song-and-dance numbers with her nurse, stand up routines from Maria’s daughter, and visits from a mysterious marine biologist mourning the effects of climate change, Graceful Exit is a darkly comedic play with music that asks “Who controls your death?”

Initially developed in the Mabou Mines 2015-2016 Resident Artist Program and The Drama League 2016-2017 Next Stage Residency, along with continued support from The Syndicate, Graceful Exit has been performed in workshop at The Drama League, The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, and SITI Company's Zeisler Studio. The music is composed by Sean Vigneau-Britt.

Graceful Exit is currently seeking a home for a full production, and already has "hype beast" written all over it: not only is Graceful Exit extremely topical, given the regularity of 60 degree days in New York City winters, the playwright was herself diagnosed with cancer in 2018, three years into her journey writing a play about cancer. We can already see the headlines. For inquiries from the New Yorker and all major Times and Chronicles, please feel free to contact her representation.
